Basic software control of the X-axis is working, all communication is done over cat5 (one cable per motor handles encoder, limit switch, and pwm). I’ve gotten accuracy down to +/- .0032”, which is probably good enough for me. Speeds are from .1 in/min (pretty nice) to 156 in/min with the current power supply.

PID on the espresso machine… seems to be working out pretty well, needs a lot of tuning though. I’m using 180 degrees as a calibration temperature, brewing will be a bit higher :D
